The Torah pointer, or yad , started as a simple tool made of a wooden stick to help readers of the Torah follow the material. This wooden stick has evolved throughout history in aesthetic and meaning. Over time, yads were made from wood to various metals such as silver and graphite, and ornamented with gold, jewels, and ivory. The evolution of the yad became an art form and also a symbol of the Jews' connection to the reading of the Torah. This event will showcase more than 200 pointers, and will be preceded by a moving processional of over 50 Czech Torah scrolls that have survived the Holocaust. Doors open at 5:15pm to the public, and begins at 6pm. Event is free--must register to attend.
