Please join TOLI for this virtual program in observance of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), featuring Charlie Scheidt, son of German-Jewish refugees and author of a powerful new memoir,Inheritance: Love, Loss, and the Legacy of the Holocaust. Following his mother’s passing, Charlie discovered a collection of letters and documents that launched a ten-year investigation into his family’s experiences during the Holocaust. When his path crossed with Kat Rohrer, an Austrian filmmaker and the granddaughter of a Nazi officer, they traveled together on a search that spanned continents and generations, uncovering family legacies shaped by love, tragedy, and resilience. Kat co-authored this newly-released book and will join the program to discuss with Charlie the lasting wounds of the past, the necessity of remembering history, and the possibility of healing across generations.
The program will open with remarks by Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, Executive Vice President of the New York Board of Rabbis, and will close with a beautiful presentation of the TOLI International Student Art Exhibition. Andrew Silow-Carroll, the Editor-at-Large of the New York Jewish Week and Managing Editor for Ideas for the JTA, will moderate the program. To register click here.
