Ann presents the story of her mother’s first cousin Kitty and her husband Victor. Kitty and Victor were saved because of the Kitchener Camp, a little known rescue effort by the British Jewish Community, the same groups that sponsored the Kindertransport, that saved 4000 men and some of their family members. When England declared war on Germany, over half of the Kitchener men, including Victor, joined the Pioneer Corp of the British Army. At war’s end, Victor returned to Berlin where he found and helped her mother, grandmother and uncle who had survived in hiding.
As part of the Generations Forward initiative of the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center, Memory Keepers help achieve its mission to teach the lessons of the Holocaust, to promote the right of all people to be treated with dignity and respect, and to encourage speaking up and acting against all forms of hate, bigotry, and prejudice.
